How to spot AI generated photos

As the technology is getting better, AI-generated photos have become increasingly realistic. However, there are still ways to spot them if you know what to look for. Here are some key points to help you detect AI-generated photos:

Unnatural Details: Look for inconsistencies in the photo, such as unrealistic reflections and shadows, or unusual textures that don’t match the overall scene.

Asymmetry: AI-generated faces often have subtle asymmetries. Check if the left and right sides of the face are perfectly symmetrical; natural faces usually have slight differences.

Background Anomalies: Pay attention to the background. AI-generated images may have blurred or illogical backgrounds that don’t make sense in the context of the photo.

Artifacts and Glitches: Look for visual artifacts such as blurred edges, pixelation, or irregular patterns, especially around complex areas like hair, jewelry, fingers or clothing.

Inconsistency in  Lighting: Check if the lighting is consistent throughout the image. AI-generated photos may have lighting that doesn’t align with the shadows or the direction of the light source.

Unnatural Eyes, Teeth and Fingers: Examine the eyes, teeth and fingers closely. AI-generated images sometimes have eyes that look lifeless, teeth that appear too perfect or oddly shaped, and fingers with different shapes.

Overly Smooth Skin: Look for unnaturally smooth or flawless skin with no pores, blemishes, or texture, which can be a sign of AI-generated enhancements.

Metadata Analysis: Check the image’s metadata. Many AI-generated photos might lack typical metadata or have traces indicating their synthetic origin.

Reverse Image Search: Use reverse image search tools to see if the image appears on websites known for AI-generated content, such as stock photo sites or AI image databases.

Keep these tips in mind and you’ll get better at spotting AI-generated photos and telling them apart from real ones, but remember AI is getting smarter day by day.
